I think I"ll start with a really common What If - we'll see where it takes me:
What if I had a Million Dollars
Just looking at this sentence makes me squirm, it's so overused. But i'll give it a try.
I notice right away inside me a split between what I know I should do with money like that and what would actually happen. Scary! The reality is, I have never had a lot of money to my name. In fact, never more than, say, $10,000 at one time, and then I had it only for a couple of weeks, because I needed to buy a used car. So there it is: I am still working on the theoretical concept of 6 figures, let alone 7. So I think I'd go shopping. But it would be weird to shop without constantly counting up the prices and without wistfully looking at stuff i want but could never buy. Maybe I'd fall into a kind of delirium where i would buy all the stuff I always had to leave on the shelf. I'd get lost at Ikea and I'd need two trucks to get the stuff home and then I'd need an emergency team to re-decorate my home. I'd get lost in a nursery store and then I'd need a team of landscapers to completely re-design my yard to make room for all the plants and veggies i want. I'd get lost in the grocery store, even. I'd buy all the fancy stuff. And I'd buy myself flowers. I'd go travel and take fun classes, like pottery and audio recording. But I think that phase would pass quickly. What if i had a million dollars? my bewildered phase would pass and my practical side would kick in, as it always does. Split the cash into 4 portions. One part for retirement savings (Holy shit, that would still be $250,000 dollars! So cool!) One part for education for the kids and myself, one part to give away and one part to supplement my daily living expenses and to pay off my debt.
Wait - you say - give away 250,000 dollars? OOOOh, yeah! That's the best part. I'd split that into many smaller bits and play Santa all over the world. Charities, Non-profits, family members, Friends..... Definitely not politics. Well, maybe. but only indirectly. The giving away part is my favorite. Just imagining the amount of help I could provide, compared to my measly $10.- I can occasionally dole out these days here and there.
Yes. I'd look forward to being generous. With myself, certainly, but generous with those in need of help. Children, especially. That get's me excited and puts a smile on my face just thinking about the idea of being generous.

I Imagine the most beautiful place I know of.
Is it my imagination or is it real? What if my Imagination can make it real? What if a mere figment of my imagination can become the first impulse to creating the very thing I have been imagining?
What if I can actually think something into being?
There's got to be some rules to it, I suppose. We'll explore that, first, in my next post.
Okay- back up. What is Imagination? It's when I can picture a scene, a place, a story, a creature, a person... anything, really - that is not factual. I make it up in my mind. That's how authors write books, how artists create sculptures and pictures, how composers write their music, how children come up with their play. (If they still know how to play. But that's a question worth it's own post, and I promise, I'll get there).
So, Tolkien's Middle Earth might exist? What if it does? What if we dare to keep questions open and unanswered and try to be comfortable not knowing something?
My original title idea for this blog was simply: WHAT IF? and then I'd be following my stream of consciousness, creating scenes and creatures, situations and societies, you name it - just following one WHAT IF. Readers can send me their What If questions. Because I will still follow this pattern, even if the blog had to come into existence under a different name, because WHAT IF was already taken. I'm sure I will research this other blogger and say hello.
Bear with me as I slowly build the look of this blog in the tiny little spare time i can find between fix-points on my busy schedule.
Ready, Set, Go!
